Youth Worker (Maternity Leave) Fixed Term Post to 31.03.26 – 21 hours per week, £22,932 (pro rata) – closing date 29 August 2025.

OYCI is a youthwork charity in Clackmannanshire providing free opportunities for young people to flourish through a wide range of fun activities designed to help them learn and grow. We are currently recruiting for a Youth Worker (Maternity Leave) to support our programme of youth work activity and especially our after school service.

The role includes afternoon, evening, weekend, and school holiday hours, full training is provided and we pay the real living wage. The role is based at our premises in Tillicoultry, it may involve some work in other locations within Clackmannanshire e.g. local schools.

Youth Worker Job Description

The Youth Worker will have experience, enthusiasm and energy to work with young people to nurture their ideas, talents and experience within local programmes.

The purpose of this job is to support OYCI with the delivery of projects and/or programmes across a range of activities for children and young people.

Working as part of a small team to deliver activities and support in the community for children and young people up to 18 years old. Exact activities, events and programmes will vary dependent on local priorities and funding.

Key Responsibilities:

To design and deliver engaging, high quality and relevant activities for children and young people. To undertake specific tasks to ensure the smooth running of any youth work session or after school club and deliver the highest quality of service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Mentor, coach and support individuals
  • Support the young people attending to participate
  • Plan activities with the rest of the team
  • Ensure youth voice stays central to our delivery
  • Set up sessions and tidy up afterwards
  • Organise transport
  • Prepare food and snacks
  • Register attendees
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Contribute to session evaluations
  • Record any incidents
  • Communicate effectively with families and stakeholders
  • Attend regular training and development opportunities and team meetings

The youth worker may be asked to:

  • Run arts-based activities, health & wellbeing programmes, community/environmental projects, digital activities, residential activities, outdoor education and after school care or any other youth led and/or community engagement projects as prioritised by the Chief Officer
  • Support young people in different settings, including outreach and project work
  • Support work on Youth Achievement Awards or other accreditation
  • Act as an advocate for young people’s interests

Personal attributes:

  • Ability to engage positively with groups of young people
  • Ability to motivate young people and encourage participation in a variety of activities
  • Empathy with and understanding of young people’s issues and development needs
  • Ability to handle challenging situations confidently
  • Ability to relate to the local community
  • Ability to work flexibly on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Interested in developing skills to deliver and lead activities with young people
  • Good organisational and time keeping skills
  • IT literate

Experience preferable / not essential:

  • Awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • Valid First Aid qualification
  • Valid Food Hygiene qualification
  • Awareness of child protection and health and safety requirements
  • Experience working with young people aged 5 to 18 years
  • A suitable qualification (SVQ or above) in Youth Work, Childcare or Play

The post holder will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland.
